Radiation Generating Devices Subcommittee
The IRGDSSc meets quarterly to review the status of the Ionizing RadiationGenerating Device Safety Program. Members discuss:
- Status of action items
- New applications for Permits and a review of proposed method of use
- Renewal of Permits; Results of inspections, findings and corrective actions
- New policies, procedures or other proposed changes to the program; Annual reports such as annual inspection, Quality Management Plans, etc.
- Incidents and follow up
- Dosimetry results exceeding investigational Level I and II limits and results of subsequent investigations
Minutes of meetings are reviewed and approved at the next subsequent meeting. Recommendations for approval are communicated to the Radiation Safety Committee. Minutes of the meetings include:
- Date of the meeting
- Members present and absent
- All other attendees
- Summary of deliberations and discussions
- Recommended actions and the numerical results of all ballots
Based on the recommendations of the subcommittee, the Radiation Safety Committee through a majority vote:
- Approves users ionizing radiation-generating devices for human and non-human use
- Makes policy for use of ionizing radiation-generating devices for Boston University and Boston Medical Center
- Revokes permits issued to Authorized Users of ionizing radiation-generating devices temporarily or permanently
- Suspends or permanently revokes privileges of any user of ionizing radiation-generating device on Boston University or the Boston Medical Center
- Directs the institutions to expend funds in the interest of radiation safety provided it is justified based on a cost benefit assessment as determined by the RSO or Chief Medical Physicist
