Dive Safety

Scuba diving can provide faculty, researchers, and students access to the ocean for their research. Scientific Diving is scuba diving performed solely as a necessary part of a research or educational activity by faculty, students, and other employees involved in research. Students graduating with scientific diving experience will have more opportunities for internships and future employment in their field of study.

In accordance with the Boston University diving policies contained in the Boston University Diving Safety Manual (DSM), all persons diving under the auspices of Boston University’s Charles River Campus and Medical Campus must be authorized to do so by the BU Diving Safety Officer (DSO) and Diving Control Board (DCB).

The Dive Safety program is cross disciplinary and applies to any academic /scientific research activity such as:

  • Engineering
  • Archeology
  • Anthropology
