Creative minds are always open to new possibilities. Explore Boston University's Master of Arts in Art Education (MAAE) online program, and discover new reasons why being an artist teacher is so rewarding.
As an art educator, you have the unique opportunity to connect with every student in the school—and to build relationships over several years. Yet, when it comes to your professional network, you mostly work alone as the sole art teacher for hundreds of students. What if you could connect with a creative community of art educators from around the globe? Now you can.
Offered through BU's renowned College of Fine Arts, the online MAAE is designed to provide an artistic and academic experience unlike any other. BU graduates gain considerable confidence as educators, become part of a worldwide creative community, and contribute to contemporary scholarship in the field of art education.
Our professional instructors, who are also practicing artists, teach valuable concepts and explore contemporary issues to implement in your lesson planning. A key differentiator for the MAAE is BU's Summer Studios, a nine-day campus residency designed to reinvigorate the creative energy you put toward art and teaching.
You already believe art can transform the way students view the world and themselves. We share your belief in every individual's creative power to make a positive impact. Choose the MAAE and learn how to transform your classroom into a place where students revel in self-discovery, creating artwork that is personally and socially meaningful.
The Boston University Master of Arts in Art Education online program consists of 32 credits, which can be completed in approximately 18 months of study. A studio experience is required, either on campus or through transfer courses. Students also prepare a visual/verbal master's thesis focused on the documentation of personal artistic process and teaching the artistic process to students using a thematic approach.
