Courses

The Boston University Online Graduate Certificate in Physical Education, Health Education, and Coaching consists of four online courses. Interested students have the option of taking all four courses required to earn the graduate certificate, or simply registering for the courses that interest them most. The four required courses can be completed in less than eight months.

  • SED EM 610 Internet and WWW for Educators

    Introduction to Internet/Web technologies and their potential use and misuse in classrooms, libraries, and other educational and training environments. Applications such as communication, news, research, and instructional resources considered. Evaluation of educational value, technical knowledge, legal, and ethical issues emphasized.   [ 4 cr.]

  • SED PE 501 Methods of Coaching

    Principles and problems in coaching various individual and team sports. Theory and techniques in coaching including offensive and defensive strategy and scouting. Women's and men's sports. 4 cr (Formerly HM 501)   [ 4 cr.]

  • SED PE 508 Curriculum and Special Methods for Human Movement Education

    Examines societal and educational variables associated with development of innovative programs of physical education. Emphasizes curriculum trends, current practices, and constructing courses of study in schools and agencies. 4 cr 1st semester (Fomerly HM 508)   [ 4 cr.]

  • SED RS 600 Perspectives on Inquiry

    Primarily for master's students. Emphasizes the conceptualization of research problems based on critical review of the literature. Landmark studies and current articles are used to illustrate applications of quantitative, qualitative, and theoretical approaches to inquiry. The language, logic, major concepts, strengths, and limitations of these approaches are noted. Students develop critical thinking skills for examining research information and its use for both asking questions that extend knowledge and planning studies to address new questions.   [ 4 cr.]
