ABOUT US
Boston University Events & Conferences provides event planning and management services to various departments on campus as well as organizations outside the University who choose to use our facilities for events. Events & Conferences provides event support for well over 500 events each year; we plan and produce meetings, lectures, receptions, weddings, banquets, and multi-day conferences.
During the summer months, Events & Conferences operates the Summer Conference Housing Program, hosting over 10,000 overnight guests in our residence halls. Many of these guests spend time on our campus attending seminars, athletic camps, and conferences.
THE STUDENT STAFF
Events & Conferences employs a large student staff each summer as part of the Summer Conference Housing Program. The student staff plays an integral role ensuring that our guests receive quality service while staying in our residence halls on campus. The student staff is responsible for preparing the rooms that our guests stay in, checking guests in and out of the residence halls, and providing information about Boston University and the city of Boston.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Campus housing is provided to all full-time summer student employees during the official dates of employment.
- Students who are graduating in May, 2009, and who have not worked for us previously are not eligible for hire; returning student employees that have graduated will be considered.
- A few of the positions may be available on a part-time basis, but housing will not be provided.
- Mandatory training sessions will be scheduled prior to the official start of our conference housing season. Multiple training sessions will be scheduled to accommodate class and work schedules.
- The weekly work schedule varies from week to week, and is determined by the number of guests we have staying with us at any one time. Due to the necessity of a flexible work schedule, there will be limited opportunities for you to take time off during the summer. We cannot make scheduling accommodations for any regularly scheduled commitments. We operate seven days a week. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required for all positions.
- Work-study positions are available. Be sure to apply for a summer work-study award with the Work-study Office by the deadline in February.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
We receive over 200 applications each year for a limited number of positions. There is NO application deadline; we hire staff on a rolling basis so please submit your application and reference forms as early as possible. To be considered for a position with us, a new applicant must do the following:
- Submit a completed application form.
- Submit two (2) reference forms.
Please note that a current or former employer must complete one of your reference forms. Reference forms may be submitted separately from your application form, but your application for employment will not be considered complete until all materials are turned in.

If submitting your application in person, please note that Events & Conferences open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
E-MAIL OPTION: You may also e-mail your completed application form to avigue@bu.edu. Download an e-mail friendly application (Word document). Note that only the application can be e-mailed. Reference forms must still be sent via US mail or submitted in person.
We will confirm receipt of your completed material via e-mail once the application and both reference forms have been received. Based on the strength of your application, we may call you for an interview. Interviews will begin no earlier than the end of January, 2009, and will continue until all positions have been filled.
