Methadone Study: POLYSUBSTANCE ABUSE IN PREGNANCY: AN INPATIENT SURVEY AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Dr. Kelly Saia The purpose of the study is to assess the incidence of club foot in methadone exposed fetuses. The study is a retrospective cohort. Incidence of clubfoot in methadone has been anecdotally noted to be increased at Boston Medical Center, the incidence of tobacco use, a known associated risk factor for club feet may be a confounding variable. Assessing the true incidence in this population is needed in order to counsel patients appropriately, and to offer appropriate screening Clubfoot and Methadone Study: POLYSUBSTANCE ABUSE IN PREGNANCY: AN INPATIENT SURVEY AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Dr. KELLEY SAIA We plan to collect data on the demographics and needs of pregnant women who present to Boston Medical Center for treatment of polysubstance abuse in pregnancy. Patients admitted to our Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Service at Boston Medical Center for the purposes of stabilization from acute intoxication or acute withdrawal from alcohol, cocaine, opioids, metamphetamines or other, will be offered to voluntarily complete a de-identified questionnaire (attached in section S). The objective of this study is, therefore, to enhance our prenatal care services for these in-need patients. Information gathered from this survey will be compiled and analyzed and the results and conclusions will be used to tailor educational and counseling services, social services, in-patient and out-patient medical/ obstetric care and recovery maintenance programs. These prospective improvements will enhance patient compliance to care and potentially improve maternal health and birth outcomes. |
