Refugee Women's Health

Initiated in 2006, Boston Medical Center 's OB/GYN department and the Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights began a women's health clinic specializing in the care of female survivors of torture. The Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights provides primary care, HIV specialty care, psychiatric treatment, social services and counseling, vocational and legal services for our clients. The Refugee women's health clinic is a sub-group of the center which specializes in the physical, psychiatric and legal care for women who are refugees, asylees or asylum seekers in the Boston area. We provide general OB/GYN care for these women. In addition, we specialize in treatment of women who have survived sexual trauma, undergone female genital mutilation, are experiencing secondary infertility and chronic pelvic pain. Over the past year and a half, we have cared for over 150 women from over 18 countries.
