Scheduling Basics

  • Your time is evenly divided between obstetrics and gynecology. Three weeks on the Ob Service and 3 weeks on the gyn service.
  • Ambulatory experiences while on either block are obtained in both general and specialty clinics.
  • The undergraduate medical education committee of the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) developed the learning objectives for this rotation.  Mastering these learning objectives listed at the beginning of each lecture should be sufficient for you to obtain a passing grade in this rotation.
  • There are weekly didactics each Wednesday. These include case based discussions, small group discussions, and hands on skills work shops.
  • Obstetrics:    While on the OB service, students will have their time divided between 3 areas: MD Service, CNM Service, and Triage.
  • Students will take overnight call while on the OB Service and will go home after morning sign outs.
  • Gynecology:   While on the GYN service, 3 students will go to Lahey Clinic, Burlington , 1 student will cover the ENC service, and the rest of the students will cover the HAC service.
  • Cases are assigned at the beginning of each week. This is the students' responsibility and you should work as a team to be sure that everyone has an equal experience.
  • GYN call at BMC is until 10PM. Students on the GYN service at Lahey have weekend call with their team.

Individual schedules will be handed out and reviewed at orientation. Due to department size and specialty clinic availability each student will have a slightly different schedule but will have the opportunity to meet all the learning objectives of the course.
