L. Donald Gilmore is a Senior Design Engineer at the NeuroMuscular Research Center where he supervises the Design Laboratory. Mr. Gilmore received an ABEE. degree in Electronic Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology (’69). He has 29 years experience in electronic instrumentation design, and worked for 24 years as a researcher in Loss Prevention for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and as a senior research associate (’89-’94) While at Liberty Mutual, Mr. Gilmore was involved in the development of alternative methods for control of a prosthetic elbow device, the Boston Elbow. His research was directed at a methodology to create an electrical interface with the peripheral nervous system that would provide potential control sites required for implementing a multi-degree of freedom prosthesis.
Mr. Gilmore joined Boston University (’94) as a Senior Design Engineer and is responsible for the development of low noise, active electrodes used for detection of the surface electromyographic signal, the Muscle Fatigue Monitor; an instrument used to measure muscle fatigue using surface electromyography, the Back Analysis System, a device used to quantify localized muscular fatigue in the muscles of the lower back, and the redesign of the BALDER system.
Mr. Gilmore is the recipient of 3 patents in the field of electromyography.
