Geena Davis at the GSU Tonight

The Friends of the Libraries will host Academy Award-winning actor Geena Davis for a reception and lecture  tonight at 6:00 PM in Metcalf Hall at the GSU. Davis will reflect on her career and discuss the work of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. The evening will be dedicated to the memory of Charles Edward “Ted” Murphy, Project Manager of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Archival Collaboration and respected film critic.  The event is free to Friends of the Libraries and BU Students and $25 per person for public.

MLK Leadership Lecture with GA Congressman John Lewis tonight

ImageThe Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center is hosting  Congressman John Lewis (Fifth District, Georgia) tonight for their annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Lecture.  Congressman Lewis is best known for his contributions to the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960’s and work as a politician and social activist.  He will lecture on his professional experiences and offer insight into his life as “one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced.”  Civil rights activist Diane Nash will also be installed as the 2010 Coretta Scott King Fellow.  Lecture begins at 7PM in the Metcalf Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.

Gotlieb Center hosts evening with Christopher Dickey

Dickey Image 1The Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center is hosting an evening with distinguished Newsweek journalist and author Christopher Dickey tonight beginning at 5:3o PM on the second floor of the George Shurman Union at 775 Commonwealth Avenue. His career has taken him from the mountain forests of Nicaragua, where he traveled with the Contra rebels in the 1980s, to Israel at the height of the suicide bombings in 2002. The event will include the opening of Dickey’s exhibition, a lecture by Dickey, and a reception. For tickets/more information, call 617-353-3696 or email archives@bu.edu. The Boston University Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center presents renowned Dylan expert Christopher Ricks. He will discuss race and its relations to the art of Bob Dylan in his lecture “All Because of the Color of his Skin.” The lecture will take place on Tuesday, April 7 at 7:00 PM in Metcalf Hall, which is located on the 2nd Floor of the GSU, 775 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. Pin His Ear to the Wisdom Post: Martin Luther King Jr. and the School of Prophets

The Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center will host the opening of an exhibition of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s archives in an event honoring Christine King Farris tonight from 5-7 PM.  Farris will be recognized as the first Martin Luther King, Jr. Fellow and will offer the inaugural MLK Jr. Leadership Lecture, speaking on her work and her personal memories of the King family.  Poet Nikki Giovanni will also be participating. The event, which will include a reception, will be held in the Howard Gotlieb Memorial Gallery at 771 Commonwealth Ave. LECTURE IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
