UMass Memorial system goes from profits to losses

Just five years ago, UMass Memorial Health Care posted an operating surplus of $83 million. The nonprofit operator of five hospitals in Central Massachusetts generated $68 million of that cash at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where doctors and nurses treated everyone from premature infants in a neonatal intensive care unit to accident survivors at Worcester’s only trauma center…
