(Boston) – Dr. Daniel Thomas Moran will deliver the keynote address at the 2011 Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Convocation on Friday, May 20 at the Boston University Walter Brown Arena.
Clinical Assistant Professor of General Dentistry Dr. Daniel Thomas Moran joined Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) in 2008. Dr. Moran received his BS from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York and his DDS from Howard University, in Washington, D.C. In addition to being a licensed dentist in Massachusetts and New York, Dr. Moran is an accomplished poet.
Dr. Moran had a private practice in Shelter Island, New York for over 20 years, while he simultaneously pursued a career as a poet. He is the author of six volumes of poetry and is currently working on his seventh book. He has read widely at libraries, schools, and universities, as well as the Library of Congress and the United Nations. His work is recognized internationally and he is currently working on a translation of his love poems into Romanian. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize on three occasions. From 2005-2007 he served as the Poet Laureate of Suffolk County, New York.
Becoming a teacher has been a radical change for Moran. He was a volunteer faculty member at GSDM for over a year, beginning in 2008, splitting his time between his practice on Shelter Island, New York and Boston. He was then hired as a faculty member, upon which he sold his practice and moved to Boston and now splits his time between the South End and a home in rural New Hampshire.
“Dr. Moran is a superlative example of the successful and broad minded dentist we strive to graduate from the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine,” says Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “It is indeed my pleasure to announce that he is the 2011 Commencement speaker and I know he will be an inspiration and example to all of our students.”
