Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine Appoint New Thoracic Surgeon

(Boston)-Boston resident Ricardo S. dos Santos, MD, has been appointed as an instructor in the department of cardiothoracic surgery at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). He is working with Benedict Daly, MD; Hiran Fernando, MD; and Michael Ebright, MD, as a faculty member of the cardiothoracic surgery department

Santos received his medical degree from the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil, and completed his surgical residency at the State University of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and also research and clinical fellowships in general thoracic surgery and lung transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pennsylvania

Santos has published numerous articles on lung and esophageal cancer treatment with an emphasis on minimally invasive surgery as well as innovative surgical technologies such as radiofrequency ablation, interventional bronchoscopy, video-assisted surgery; and lung transplantation for end stage lung disease.

Santos is an international member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Brazilian Society of Pulmonary Physicians, as well as a member of Brazilian and Latin American medical societies. He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and has been involved in outreach efforts with the large Portuguese-speaking community in Massachusetts.
