Boston University to Celebrate Legacy of Alumnus Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 21

Boston – Boston University will celebrate the life and legacy of its most distinguished alumnus, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an afternoon of performances featuring renowned poet and activist Sonia Sanchez and internationally acclaimed opera singer Simon Estes, on Monday January 21, 2008.

Sonya Sanchez will deliver the keynote address. A prolific playwright and author of more than a dozen poetry books, she was awarded the Robert Frost medal of poetry in 2001.

Simon Estes is an internationally acclaimed bass baritone who has performed in the world’s major opera houses and in special performances for U.S. presidents and international dignitaries.

Ode to the Common People: A Celebration of the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will also feature performances by the Inner Strength Gospel Choir, The Boston University Symphonic Chorus, and other members of the Boston University community.
