Fame is a musical written by Jose Fernandez (book), Steve Margoshes (music) and Jacques Levy (lyrics), based on the award-winning 1980 movie directed by Alan Parker. The idea behind the movie and musical was conceived and developed by David De Silva. Set during the last years of New York City’s celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street (1980-1984), the story focuses on one class of acting, dance, and music students. The show follows the trials and tribulations of the students and teachers of dance, music, acting and literature, and explores conflicts of self, society and the struggle between the beauty of art and the practicality of academia.
