Boston – For the 9th consecutive year, Boston University student athletes are reaching out to area elementary schools this week to provide second-graders with the holiday gift of reading. Through this program, more than 260 student athletes will read to more than 500 second-graders around the city.
The Boston University Business Affairs Office and Barnes and Noble at BU have made it possible for the children to keep the books they are read as holiday gifts from the University. In addition, the teachers will all receive copies of For the Love of the Red Sox: An A to Z Primer for Red Sox Fans of All Ages, to share with their students. Further, each classroom will receive a stuffed animal in the likeness of Rhett the BU Terrier. The real live Rhett will also join the holiday celebrations posing for pictures and signing autographs for the children.
Founded in 1839, Boston University is an internationally recognized institution of higher education and research and the fourth largest independent university in the United States. With more than 30,000 students in its 17 schools and colleges, BU is a NCAA Division I school, with 24 varsity sports, many of which are nationally ranked.
