Boston University Medical Center Appoints New Otolaryngologist

(Boston) – Boston resident Elizabeth Mahoney, MD, has been named an attending otolaryngologist at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and a clinical instructor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM).

Mahoney has a special interest in the application of advanced endoscopic techniques to a broad array of disease processes and performs advanced endoscopic procedures including: frontal sinus surgery, sphenopalatine ligation, repair of cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and encephaloceles, and decompression of the orbit for Graves’ ophthalmopathy. She also has a strong interest in pediatric otolaryngology and enjoys working with children and their parents.

Mahoney specializes in the treatment of allergy. Her practice offers a multidimensional diagnostic ability ranging from individual prick testing to multitesting, dilutional skin testing, and RAST testing. The practice also offers elimination diets for food sensitivities, conventional desensitiziation via allergy injections and will soon be trialing sublingual allergy therapy.

Mahoney has performed research on the treatment of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia and has an ongoing study examining the stratification of risk factors for ACE Inhibitor induced angioedema.

Mahoney received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine and completed her residency training at Boston University Medical Center. She has been a guest presenter at various national and international meetings and grand rounds. In addition, Mahoney is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society, American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
