(Boston, Mass.) — The Board voted to accept, with deep regret and appreciation, the resignation of John Silber as Chancellor and as Trustee at Boston University. He has been Chancellor for the past seven years and has been a Trustee since 1971 when he assumed the Presidency of the University. Previously, the Board voted that upon his resignation as Chancellor, Dr. Silber will become President Emeritus. Dr. Silber had a speaking engagement in Texas today and did not attend the meeting.

The Board also voted to appoint an ad hoc Committee on Governance to consider issues relating to Board structure, composition and organization. The Committee will also define the search process for the next President of Boston University.

Note to Editors: Separate releases have been sent regarding the appointment of the President ad interim and status of Daniel Goldin which were also discussed at the Board meeting today. These can be found at www.bu.edu/news.
