Joint Statement Re: David Mugar and Boston University

(Boston, Mass.) — David G. Mugar and Dr. John Silber have reached agreement on the disposition of Mr. Mugar’s $3 million donation to Boston University’s Mugar Memorial Library. In accordance with Mr. Mugar’s wishes, the donation will be distributed to WGBH-TV and Cape Cod Hospital.

Mr. Mugar commented that “I am very pleased that this matter has been resolved. For over 40 years, our family has had a close association with Boston University, and I look forward to maintaining that relationship for many years to come. I am grateful to Dr. Silber for his understanding and his sensitivity in seeing to it that my wishes were honored in this matter. I have assured Dr. Silber that I would be pleased to speak to him in the future regarding needed support for the Mugar Library. I continue to have great respect for Dr. Silber for his continuing leadership at Boston University.”

Dr. Silber replied that “David Mugar’s generosity is very much appreciated by Boston University and by me personally. He is a philanthropist in the truest sense of the word and has made our city a better place to live. We look forward to continuing the University’s long-term relationship with Mr. Mugar and his family, and to working with him on future endeavors.”
