Luo Yan to Screen “Pavilion of Women” for Boston University Community

Boston, MA — Boston University alumna Luo Yan is the featured filmmaker at the General Cinema Fenway 13 Theater on March 26, 2002. Yan is a producer and an actress who has won numerous awards in her native China.

In the film “Pavilion of Women,” Yan stars opposite Willem Dafoe in a story based on Nobel Prize winner Pearl S. Buck’s 1946 novel of the same name. The movie was first released in May 2001 and has been shown in both China and the U.S. Following the BU screening there will be a question and answer session with Yan.

Luo Yan graduated from the College of Fine Arts at Boston University in 1990, where she met her husband Hugo Shong. Shong is a graduate of Boston University’s College of Communication and executive producer of “Pavilion of Women.”

Before the screening, Luo Yan will present a scholarship to Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. The endowment will make it possible for one or two students of Asian ancestry to study theatre performance or management each year.

Hugo Shong will announce an additional gift to his scholarship fund at the College of Communication. Established by Shong in 1998, the scholarship which bears his name will continue to benefit students of Asian descent who wish to study journalism, film and television, or mass communication.
