Boston, MA — B’nai B’rith Hillel House at Boston University has named its award for outstanding seniors in honor of Professor Emeritus Ronald C. Curhan, a longtime supporter of Hillel House at BU. The Professor Ronald C. Curhan Outstanding Senior Award will be given to a graduating student who has provided exceptional service to Hillel House throughout his or her undergraduate years. Dr. Curhan was a professor of marketing at Boston University’s School of Management for 30 years prior to his appointment as Professor Emeritus in 2000.

In announcing the award in Professor Curhan’s name, Rabbi Joseph Polak, director of Hillel House, said that, “Professor Curhan has long been interested in the well-being of students at Boston University, and has been a continuing supporter of Hillel activities. It is fitting that we continue the Outstanding Senior Award in his name since he models the very qualities the award is meant to honor. Ronald Curhan himself comes with a very distinguished history of Jewish communal leadership.” Professor Curhan is past president of the American Jewish Historical Society, a director of the National Foundation for Jewish Culture and has been an overseer of the Rose Art Museum and the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston.

Fifty-four students have received the Outstanding Senior Award since alumnus Michael Albert initiated the award in 1962. The award recognizes a student’s creative leadership on behalf of Hillel. Past recipients have included the creator of a successful theater group, the founder of an a capella singing organization, the initiator of a weekly student newspaper, and the developer of the webmaster position on the Hillel House student board.

“Hillel is most grateful for Professor Curhan’s support, which enables the continuation of this important recognition of student leadership,” says Rabbi Polak. “The award has become a coveted honor, which now will be continued for many years to come.”

Nominations will be solicited annually during the month of March, and the recipient will be recognized during commencement week. Names of recipients of the Ronald C. Curhan Outstanding Senior Award will be recorded on a plaque to be maintained at BU’s Hillel House
