Dr. Chandrasekaran (Chand) is a neuroscientist who combines electrophysiology, analytical techniques and computational modeling to study the neural basis of goal-directed behavior. Specifically, Chand’s current research (recently published at Nature Communications) and future research agenda is focused on elucidating the single-trial circuit dynamics in prefrontal and parietal regions of the primate brain mediating goal-directed behavior. His research training in Prof. Shenoy’s lab has provided him insights into how systems neuroscience can be used for clinically relevant brain-computer interfaces. Chand’s research delineating how goal-directed behavior arises in prefrontal cortical circuits on single trials when combined with modern perturbation techniques (such as electrical stimulation, optical stimulation and pharmacology) may facilitate circuit level therapeutics and the design of the next generation of brain computer interfaces for mental health and neurological disorders.
