Kumiko Tsuji was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Before coming to Boston, she taught Japanese at institutions such as New York University, the University of Arkansas, and the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. She has also taught the language to college students from all over the world in Japan, where in addition she taught English grammar and reading to Japanese college students. Her research interest is in Japanese syntax, particularly the structure of Japanese noun phrases, with comparison to other languages.
