Professor Hoecherl-Alden has published on German exiles in the United States, post-Wall German film, intercultural communication, as well as language pedagogy and language policy. Apart from all levels of German language classes, she has taught 19th and early 20th century German literature, German film, German for the Professions, as well as a survey course on German literature and culture from the early Middle Ages through enlightenment.
She teaches in the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature’s German section, and collaborates with all language programs at Boston University in her role as Assistant Dean and Director of Language Instruction. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, she also represents Boston University with regards to ongoing regional and national language initiatives.
