Amani Abu-Shakra has taught Arabic language at many levels and has served as Assistant Director of BU’s Academy for Arabic Teachers. She is also a doctoral student in Anthropology at BU; her research investigates whether Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese emigres to the US become American in a distinctive way when compared to other immigrant populations, and if so whether Islam plays a significant role in such a distinction.
