Undergraduate Materials Laboratories

The new state-of-the-art laboratories listed below are used for demonstration and projects in the various undergraduate materials courses.

Casting and Welding Laboratories

The Casting Laboratory is capable of melting metals and alloys up to 1200 C, for fabricating castings and investigating process technology. This lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art McENGLEVAN high temperature electric unit, and a gas-assisted melting furnace. The lab is also fully equipped with sand mixing and blending equipment and molds.

The Welding Lab contains two new TIG (MILLER) welding units and one spot welder. These resources are extensively used by students for their product design and development projects.

Metallography Laboratory

Fully equipped for polishing and optical microscopy, this lab contains all equipment necessary for cutting, mounting and polishing samples for optical microscopy. The lab is also equipped with several standard OLYMPUS optical microscopes, one stereo zoom microscope, and a computerized OLYMPUS inverted optical microscope.

Mechanical Testing Laboratory

This lab is equipped with several ROCKWELL hardness testers, a micro hardness tester, a new computer controlled INSTRON 8800, and all peripheral mechanical working and bending tools.
