The Department of Manufacturing Engineering was the first of its kind in the country, and the first to offer accredited degrees in manufacturing at the BS, MS, and PhD levels. The department continues to be a leader and an innovator in the manufacturing discipline. Manufacturing Engineering at Boston University is an interdisciplinary field with a design emphasis encompassing a broad range of areas, including materials and machining, automation and microelectronics, and systems and control. Students have the opportunity to study real-world manufacturing technologies in many areas with world-renowned faculty members in the department’s state-of-the-art facilities, and work alongside professors conducting cutting-edge research.
