Title: Demand Side Management in the Built Environment: The Rapid Response Tool to Combat Climate Change

According to Jim Hansen of NASA we have just ten years to radically reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions before the earth passes an irrevocable tipping point in Global Warming.  Addressing energy conservation and efficiency in the built environment on a comprehensive scale may offer the best opportunity to meet this challenge.  The built environment emits close to fifty percent of all GHGs in the United States.  With existing technologies we currently can reduce these emissions by fifty per cent and more.   I will discuss the over all problem and address the four major barriers to implementation: perceived cost, measurement technology, financial instruments, and installer training.
