The Boston University Department of Manufacturing Engineering invites you to attend our spring Emerging Technologies and Best Industry Practices Seminar that will take place on March 31, 2006, "From Hollywood to Homes: Robots for Today". This workshop will bring together academic, government, and industry leaders in the robotics community to share their views on how robots are transforming everyday lives and to discuss the trends and market opportunities in robotics.
Robots have long been a part of the human imagination. Today, they are no longer mere Sci-Fi characters or the brainchild of Hollywood directors. They may not all look like R2-D2, but robots are quietly making a difference in people’s lives – from assisting heart surgeons to scrubbing floors. A longtime staple on the manufacturing floor, robots are showing up just about everywhere, in hospitals, in war–zones, in households, and even on Martian surfaces. These robots for today are here to stay.
