Short Biography of Dimitar P. Filev
Dr. Dimitar P. Filev is a Senior Technical Leader, Knowledge Based Systems & Control, with Ford Motor Company, specializing in industrial intelligent systems and technologies for control, diagnostics, and decision-making. Prior to joining Ford in 1994, Dr. Filev was an Associate Professor of Information Systems and a Senior Research Associate at the Machine Intelligence Institute, Iona College, and an Associate Professor at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He is conducting research in process control and applications, modeling of complex systems, intelligent modeling, control, diagnostics & prognostics. D. Filev has published 3 books, over 150 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and holds 26 granted patents. Dr. Filev is a recipient of the '95 Award for Excellence of the MCB University Press and has been awarded four times with the Henry Ford Technology Award for development and implementation of intelligent manufacturing control systems. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics, Int. J. of General Systems, and Int. J. of Approximate Reasoning. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a member of the Board of Directors of IEEE Systems, Man & Cybernetics Society and President Elect of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS). He has served on numerous program committees of IEEE conferences. Dr. Filev received his PhD. in Electrical Engineering from the Czech Technical University, Prague, in 1979.
