MS

At the Masters level, students can satisfy degree requirements by selecting three core courses for an introduction into three of four areas (manufacturing systems, management, software, and materials) and then focus their studies in one of six concentration areas (systems and operations research, product innovation and management, manufacturing operations management, automation and control, materials and processes, and microelectronics fabrication). Finally, three electives and a capstone course or MS thesis allow students to go deeper in one concentration area or pursue a second one. The MS thesis option offers the opportunity to either hone deeper into one’s favorite engineering science area, or possibly engage in an applied case study of a real industrial problem.

In addition to on campus full time study, part time study is possible through the Department’s Distance Learning Program which enables full audiovisual interaction in regular lectures via videoconferencing. An intensive part time Executive MS program is also available to qualifying students. A dual MS/MBA degree is available to interested students qualifying for admission to both the department of Manufacturing engineering and the Boston University School of Management. Finally, a two year MS in Global Manufacturing is offered in collaboration with the University of Aachen in Germany with research topics open in:

» Production System Modeling
» Control and Optimization
» Green Manufacturing
» Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS)
» Power MEMS
» Advanced Materials
» Process Control
» Simulation of Physical Processes to aid Manufacturing Development
» High Precision Process Development and Automation
