The Bryan D. Willard Scholarship

In 2006, Boston University’s Metropolitan College established the Bryan D. Willard Memorial Scholarship in memory of Marine Captain Bryan Willard, a highly decorated officer and graduate student at Metropolitan College who was killed in the line of duty.

In honor of his service and commitment to learning, we proudly extend this opportunity for financial assistance to members of the military community pursuing their education at Metropolitan College.

Bryan D. Willard Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Information and Eligibility Requirements

The Bryan D. Willard Memorial Scholarship provides two awards of $5,000 each academic year. Scholarship funds are for exclusive use toward tuition costs for undergraduate or graduate courses at Metropolitan College, and must be used during the fall and spring semesters immediately following the award.

To be eligible for consideration, scholarship applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • This scholarship is open to members or veterans of the armed forces who have been awarded a Purple Heart for a wound received while in combat. Spouses and children of veterans killed in the line of duty are also eligible and encouraged to apply.

  • Scholarship applicants must be accepted into an academic degree program at Metropolitan College.

  • Scholarship applicants who are not currently enrolled in a Metropolitan College program may apply for the scholarship and an academic program concurrently. However, each application will be considered independently. For example, it is possible that an applicant may be accepted into a degree program without a scholarship award.

For more information on available academic programs at Metropolitan College, and for instructions on how to apply for admission, please click here.

  • Students may receive the Bryan D. Willard Memorial Scholarship multiple times; however, recipients must reapply for the scholarship each year.

Review Process

  • The scholarship committee will evaluate all applications and select two scholarship recipients per academic year.

  • Applications will be considered based on the personal statement submitted by each candidate.

  • Applications for the fall semester must be received by August 1 of that year, and applications for the spring semester must be received by December 1 of that year.
