Massachusetts Department of Correction Academic Scholarship Program

Boston University’s Metropolitan College offers a scholarship program specifically designed to benefit employees of the Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC).

The Department of Correction Academic Scholarship will be awarded to ten current DOC employees who demonstrate potential for academic excellence. The DOC Academic Scholarship covers 100 percent of tuition, exclusive of fees, for up to 12 undergraduate-level credits or 11.5 graduate-level credit per semester at BU’s Metropolitan College.

Recipients of the scholarship will be required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) to continue receiving the tuition benefits of the program. Applicants to online programs and the Accelerated Degree Completion Program are not eligible for these awards.

The DOC Academic Scholarship is only available to US citizens or permanent residents.

Scholarship Application Guidelines

To apply for the DOC Academic Scholarship, submit the materials as outlined below.

Undergraduate Applicants

An essay describing motivation for study (approximately 500 words)
Letter of recommendation (from Department of Corrections supervisor)

Graduate Applicants

Current résumé
Official transcript, or notarized full-sized copy of transcript, from college or university where bachelor’s degree was earned; must be sent in a sealed and stamped envelope to the address below
Three letters of recommendation (one of which should be an academic reference)

Fall semester—August 15
Spring semester—December 1
