Department of Liberal Studies
The study of the liberal arts is the oldest approach to learning in Western culture, and its history is both stable and profound. The Department of Liberal Studies at Metropolitan College seeks to guide students on an exploration of the significance of liberal learning in the twenty-first century. What can it offer us today? How is it different? In what ways should it change?
Our students participate in programs that enable them to pursue learning for learning’s sake as they develop into critical thinkers, skilled rhetoricians, and informed citizens—in short, we prepare them to synthesize and negotiate information of all kinds. Graduates of liberal studies programs at Metropolitan College—through their knowledge of literature, history, culture, philosophy, and the social and natural sciences—are well-trained for success in their professional and personal lives.
