Admissions and Eligibility

General Admissions Requirements
In order to be considered for the Master of Science in Business Administration, applicants must demonstrate through their admissions essay that they can handle a rigorous, fast-paced curriculum and can play a unique role in the online classroom discussions. Students must have the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree to be considered for this program. International students for whom English is not a first language must submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). For current information on the TOEFL examination, please visit www.ets.org/toefl. Applicants are expected to show good writing skills and strong professional reasons for pursuing this program. Candidates should emphasize a clear career strategy and explain through their brief admissions essay how this program will fit into their long-term career goals.

Good Academic Standing
Students admitted to the Master of Science in Business Administration must maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 in each course to be in good academic standing in the degree program. No grade lower than B- may be used toward graduation requirements at Boston University. Faculty will work with students throughout the program to make certain that students are aware of their academic progress and any potential deficiencies.

Application Process
Applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Graduate degree application form
  • Official transcript, or notarized full-sized copy of transcript, from college or university where bachelor’s degree was earned; must be sent in a sealed and stamped envelope to address below
    Note: Those seeking a course waiver must submit evidence of successful completion of DAU coursework.
  • Proof of English language proficiency for those who did not attend college in a country where English is the first language; original TOEFL® score must be submitted directly to address below
  • Admissions essay explaining motivation for study (500 words)
  • A current résumé
  • GMAT score
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A nonrefundable $70 application fee (please make check payable to Boston University or complete a Credit Card Authorization Form)

Course Waivers
Certain courses from the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) that carry ACE-recommended graduate credits may qualify you to waive one course in the Master of Science in Business Administration. Please ask your advisor for information, and submit proof of completion with your application to the address above.

On-base Costs
As of Fall 2007, active duty military, their dependents and DoD employees/contractors are eligible for a discounted tuition rate of $1,980 per Boston University Metropolitan College on-base classroom-based graduate course, plus a $40 registration fee each semester.
