Program Overview
The Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) program is intended for computer professionals and students who wish to move into the computer field from other areas of study. The program prepares students to assume professional responsibilities as information security specialists, software engineers, and software system leaders.

Program Features

  • Ten-course curriculum can be completed in two years by students who meet prerequisite requirements
  • Classes meet once a week, from 6-9 p.m.
  • Fall, spring, summer semester options

Prerequisites
Applicants to the program are required to have a bachelor's degree and proficiency in programming, discrete mathematics, and systems. Java programming prerequisites are offered in Chelmsford. Degree Requirements
A total of ten courses (40 credits) is required: five Core Requirements and five General Electives. Each course is 4 credits.

Admissions Requirements

A complete application includes:

  • A completed Application for Graduate Admission
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (including proof of bachelor's degree from an accredited institution)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement essay
  • Current resume
  • A non-refundable application fee of $70 (Check made payable to Boston University)

For applicants who graduated from institutions where instruction was not in English, a minimum TOEFL score of 550, or a demonstrated proficiency in English, is required.

Metropolitan College has a rolling admissions policy. Please allow 4 weeks for an admissions decision after submitting a completed application.

Part-time Tuition Costs (1 - 11.5 credits per semester):

Courses numbered 600-999: $700 per credit hour
Courses numbered 100-599: $350 per credit hour
Registration Fee per semester: $40

The cost of books is not included in the tuition.

Need to defer tuition payment while waiting for reimbursement from your employer? Ask about the Deferred Payment Plan (Option #2) which permits deferral of 75% of tuition costs until after the semester ends. Contact the BU Office of Student Accounting or call (617) 353-2264.
