Offering - Project Management Graduate Certificate

Overview
Boston University's Metropolitan College offers a for-credit Graduate
Certificate in Project Management that is uniquely tailored to industry
and delivered on-site at companies.
Through customized case studies and project simulations, distinguished
Boston University faculty will present a comprehensive curriculum that
addresses the methodologies of effective leadership and communication,
and the essentials of project management principles as they pertain
to industry needs. The Graduate Certificate in Project Management combines
maximized accessibility for working professionals with the high academic
standards for which Boston University is renowned.
Employees earn the Graduate Certificate in Program Management by completing
a series of four courses.
Transfer of Credits to Degree Programs
Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Program Management,
qualified students may apply their courses toward the requirements for
one of three Master of Science degree programs:
Computer Information Systems (a classroom based Master of Science
degree at BU public sites)
Administrative Studies (a classroom based Master of Science degree
at BU public sites)
Project Management (an online Master of Science degree)
The Graduate Certificate in Project Management is also excellent preparation
for the internationally recognized Project Management Professional (PMP)
Certification and COMPTIA’s IT Project+ Certification. In preparation
for the PMP Certification Exam, companies who host the Graduate Certificate
program may also arrange for an optional one-day course at a special,
discounted rate.
Requirements
Applicants to the Graduate Certificate program must meet several
general admissions requirements.
Applicants must have the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree
from an accredited college or university.
Applicants are expected to show good writing skills and strong professional
reasons for pursuing this program.
Applicants must demonstrate through their admissions essay that they
can handle a rigorous, fast-paced curriculum and can play a unique
role in classroom discussion.
International students for whom English is not a first language must
submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL). For current

Applying for the Graduate Certificate in Program Management
Once a company has made arrangements to host the Graduate Certificate
program, employees may apply for admission by submitting the following
materials:
Graduate Certificate in Program Management application form.
Proof of graduation from an accredited institution with an earned GPA
of 3.0. Complete official transcripts, or notarized full-sized copies,
from all previous college, university, and graduate study must
be submitted in a sealed and stamped envelope.
Payment of a nonrefundable application fee of $70 (must accompany
the application).
Original TOEFL score submitted directly to Boston University by the
testing agency.
A brief admissions essay.
Resume.
Three letters of recommendation.
Good Academic Standing
Students admitted to the Project Management Certificate Program must
maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 in each course to be
in good academic standing and to graduate from the certificate program.
No grade lower than B- may be used toward graduation requirements at
Boston University. Faculty will work with students throughout the program
to make certain that students are aware of their academic progress and
any potential deficiencies.

Preparation for the PMP Certification Exam
In this optional, one-day course, students prepare for the Project
Management Certification Exam offered by the Project Management Institute.
The
exam consists of 200 questions focusing on the five Processing Groups
(Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling, and Closing) and the
nine Knowledge Areas (Scope, Quality, Time, Cost, Risk, Human Resources,
Procurement, Communications, and Integration Management) as delineated
by PMI’s “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.”
This course is offered at a special discount to Graduate Certificate
program participants and at companies only.
