Gastronomy, Culinary Arts and Wine Studies at Metropolitan College

Master of Liberal Arts in Gastronomy

To study food is to examine civilization—from world cultures and global commerce to the arts, humanities, and the natural and social sciences. Boston University’s unique, multidisciplinary Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) in Gastronomy explores the role of food from a variety of perspectives—gaining a holistic view of the impact of food, food science, and nutrition in historical and contemporary societies. Students choose from specialized concentrations in Business, Communication, Food Policy, and History & Culture, and have the opportunity to engage in experiential learning through hands-on culinary arts laboratories and wine studies courses.

Certificate Program in the Culinary Arts

The only one of its kind in the country, Boston University's full-time culinary arts program is taught entirely by working chefs and experts in the food industry at our state-of-the-art demonstration and kitchen facilities. Students are introduced to the various disciplines of gastronomy and trained in classic and modern techniques of food production

Wine Studies Program

The four-level Wine Studies Program is offered at the Elizabeth Bishop Wine Resource Center at Boston University. Students—including those already in the industry—benefit from the expertise of our instructors: industry expert Stacy Woods, and Masters of Wine Sandy Block and Bill Nesto. Certification in Levels 2, 3, and 4 enhances one's opportunity to work in the wine industry.

We also offer Seminars in Food, Wine & the Arts—a special series designed to educate and entertain.
