A rich sample of European windmills is now available on the Web. Some of those indicated below contain detailed technical drawings, making it possible to compare Dutch and English windmills to those of La Mancha in Spain.

The Dutch Windmill. English translation of De Hollandsche Molen by Frederick Stokhuyzen (1891-1976), a Dutch windmill expert and preservationist. This comprehensive book (which prints out to 76 pages) is rich in technical detail, with helpful drawings of every aspect of windmill design and use.

Typen Molens (Mill Types). An illustrated typology of Dutch windmills, in Dutch, but easy to follow.

La Biblioteca del Tio Kinke (Uncle Kinke's Library). Comprehensive windmill site, mainly in Spanish, with some materials in Pedro Lopez-Pintor's quaint English. Besides general windmill information, he supplies a section on windmill philately and, most importantly, a page of links to windmill sites in 35 (count 'em!) countries or regions, including England, Holland, the US and every other place you can think of.

Molinos de La Mancha (Mills of La Mancha). The main interest here is a complex diagram of a La Mancha windmill, with all 75 parts identified by name and function.

Los Molinos de La Mancha (The Mills of La Mancha). This is the text of a splendid book by Juan Carlos Fernandez-Layos Mier on the history and ethnography of La Mancha windmills, together with a dense technological description and a 75-entry lexicon of mill parts. Well worth it for those who read Spanish. And for those who don't, try.

Green's Mill. Windmill in Nottingham, England, that was once the home of the mathematician, George Green. Included are a history of the Mill, a guide describing the "Cap and Dust" floor, "Grain Cleaner" floor, Bin Floor, stone and meal floors, the sails and millstones, and a glossary of technical terms. There is also a 7-page anthology of true anecdotes about Nottinghamshire mills and millers of the 19th century, and finally some selections from the Green's Mill Cookery Book.

Llynon Mill, Anglesey, UK. Particularly interesting 5-page technical description.

Windmills in Mecklenburg. English listing of windmills in this area of Germany.

Boyd's Mill. SPOOM/NE member Dan Titus has made available 27 Rhode Island Windmill postcards, including the 8-vaned Boyd's Mill.
