Roy-Ron-2012cRonald A. Roy is the recipient of the 2012 Edward T. Bryand Distinguished Engineer Award. This award was established in 1979 to recognize an individual, outside University of Maine, “who has by his/her activities, achievements, and scholarship brought distinction to the profession of engineering.” The basic criteria used to determine a worthy nominee are: (i) achievements in engineering, research and public service; (ii) honors, and (iii) publications, patents, inventions, and/or other creative achievements. Professor Roy was pleased to receive this award on Friday, November 9, 2012. “It is always extra special to be so recognized by your alma mater. I was both pleased to be able to attend the banquet and honored by the award. I have very fond memories of my days at Orono, and returned from my visit impressed with the scope and quality of the various programs and activities within the UMO College of Engineering.”

Park 2010

Harold Park as been selected to receive the 2012 Sia Nemat-Nasser Early Career Media from the Materials Division of the ASME ”for educating surface effects on the plastic deformation mechanisms and mechanical properties of crystalline nanowires.” This Society-level award was established in 2008 by the Materials Division to recognize research excellence in the areas of experimental, computational, and theoretical mechanics and materials by young investigators who are within 10 years of their Ph.D. degree.  The award will be conferred at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in Houston in November 2012.

Morgan-Elise-2012Elise Morgan was selected as the 2012 Distinguished Faculty Fellow at College of Engineering, an award that recognizes midlevel faculty members for significant contributions to their field. Morgan will receive $20,000 per year for the next five years to support her investigations of the role of the mechanical function of tissues and organs in skeletal health, repair and development, with the ultimate goal of pinpointing causes and treatments for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, poor bone healing, and other diseases and conditions.
