BU SEDS – Students for the Exploration and Development of Space
BU Students for the Exploration and Development of Space is an organization dedicated to celebrating enthusiasm about space. Though BU SEDS is organized through the college of engineering, we are not an engineer specific group and encourage membership from students of all backgrounds.
We have regular meetings every other Wednesday night at 6pm in ME245.
This year, we’ve hosted or co-hosted 4 speakers, including two speaker from NASA Johnson Space Center, a speaker from Virgin Galactic, a speaker from Busek Propulsion, a SEDS-USA staff member.
We’ve also attended 2 conferences this year, Space: The Business Frontier at Harvard Business School, with 14 members attending, and we had 5 members attend SpaceVision 2013, the annual SEDS-USA conference which was hosted by Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.
We are currently designing and building a custom 10″ Dobsonain Telescope which we plan to take on stargazing trips once it is completed in the spring semester, and we run a highscool outreach program, SEDS HOP, where we visit highschools to talk about careers in the space industry, the benefits of persuing STEM majors, and ways that non-STEM majors can aid in the creation of sustainable space based industry, and permanent human settlement of space.
Our meetings consists of different things each week, everything from working on different projects, like our outreach program, to design challenges and many other things.
Join us for Space Trivia, Wednesday, Feb 26 at 6pm in ME245!
