The NEW Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) represents a merger of BU’s existing departments of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to create a single department with the diversity and critical mass required to compete on an international scale.  Several of the ME faculty are also members of the new Division of Systems Engineering and the Division of Material Science & Engineering.  The seamless integration of these multiple graduate degree programs provides ME graduate students with enhanced flexibility vis a vis course options and research directions.

The Department offers the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering as well as the Master of Science (MS) degree in both Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, with the MS program offering non-thesis and thesis options.  In addition, we offer an MS/DLP (distance learning program) degree in Manufacturing Engineering as well as specialized degree options such as the MS in Global Manufacturing and a hybrid MS/MBA program in Manufacturing Engineering offered jointly with the BU School of Management.
