IGS Presents 2023 Sustainability Awards

The Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability has announced the winners of the 2023 IGS Sustainability Awards, presented on October 12 at the Institute’s annual social gathering of faculty, students, board members, and others across the sustainability research community at Boston University. In addition to honoring faculty and student rising stars advancing sustainability research at BU, this year IGS welcomed featured speaker Oliver Sellers-Garcia, the City of Boston’s first Green New Deal Director. The event also celebrated IGS’s early successes, with remarks from IGS Director Benjamin Sovacool, and showcased student research in poster sessions throughout the event.

This year’s sustainability “superhero” award winners were recognized for their significant contributions to research or practice in sustainability and climate change, as well as equity and justice. The Sustainability Champion Award went to Associate Professor Michael Gevelber (ME, MSE, SE). Student awards went to Alina McIntyre at SPH and Emma Longo at COM.
