Melanie Herscovitch
Gilmore Lab

Research: My research in the Gilmore Laboratory currently focuses on understanding the structure of a key regulatory protein in the cell called NEMO. Mutations in the NEMO gene have been associated with two immunodeficiencies. The goal of my research has been to understand how these mutations and more importantly the structure of NEMO plays a role in its function as a scaffolding protein.

Student Life: Aside from my research, I also head the Women in Biology group here at BU. Our organization promotes the success of graduate women in the department. Our monthly events serve to promote mentoring relationships and act as a venue for many students to learn about the opportunities that post-graduate life offers.  As a member and volunteer for the Association for Women in Science, I also enjoy contributing articles to the national magazine.
