General Overview
Graduate Program in Mathematical Finance

The one-year (3 semesters/10 courses) program focuses on the crux of mathematical concepts that led to the development of the Black and Scholes option pricing method and have grown recently into a universal tool for creating effective investment strategies and risk-analysis. Currently, sophisticated mathematical tools are used not only by traders of derivatives, but also by any bank or corporation that has to determine how much to spend for development and research, the best time to enter/exit the market, to make a merger-acquisition decision, or to manage risk. This has forced essentially all major financial institutions in the U.S. to employ graduates with very strong quantitative skills and solid knowledge of financial markets.

Our program was developed in response to this demand. Unlike a master’s degree program in physics, engineering or computational mathematics, in a typical mathematical finance program all relevant mathematical concepts are presented exclusively in the context of financial applications. All courses in the Program are designed exclusively for the purpose of graduate education in Mathematical Finance. The course curriculum emphasizes equally well the theoretical and the practical aspects of the methods of Mathematical Finance. Most cutting-edge financial technologies are included in the curriculum.

Our program is equally suitable for students who have just finished their undergraduate education or for practitioners with some experience in the financial industry. To be admitted to the program, applicants need to have college level calculus (all levels), linear algebra and differential equations, in addition to some basic knowledge of computer programming. The entire program consists of ten courses and an internship, all of which can be completed within one calendar year.
