Summer Term Coordinator for Mathematics and Statistics — Job Description

Primary responsibility to develop, implement, and oversee the full program
of courses and curriculum for all Summer Term courses in mathematics and
statistics, which in Summer 2018 was 58 courses and approximately 1,150
registered students.

Make and coordinate the teaching assignments of all faculty, postdocs,
graduate students, and part-time lecturers who teach Summer Term courses
in mathematics and statistics.

In collaboration with the Department Chair, assign full-time faculty and
postdocs to Summer Term courses.

In consultation with the Director of Graduate Studies,
primary responsibility for the assignment of graduate students who teach
Summer Term courses, and primary responsibility for the assignment of
Part-Time Lecturers who teach Summer Term courses.

Serve as primary departmental contact with the BU Office of Summer Term.

Lead training sessions for graduate students teaching Summer Term courses.

In consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Mathematics
Instruction, the Department Chair, and the Dean of Summer Term, develop
recommendations for additional courses to be offered as part of the
curriculum for the subsequent Summer and for changes to the existing
curriculum and course offerings.

Lead annual review of the course evaluations completed by students who are
enrolled in Summer Term courses.

As needed, meet with any Summer Term instructors to address student concerns
and to improve the quality of instruction.

Assist the Department Chair and Department Administrator with preparing
the annual Summer Term budget request.

Oversee the departmental Tutoring Room service during Summer Term, which
the Department has been running during each of the past 25 academic years,
and which the Department expanded to include Summer Term courses beginning
in Summer 2014.
