Come back to Madrid!

There are many ways to return to Spain to work or study!

Fulbright

Sponsored by the US government, the Fulbright program encourages and facilitates understanding and exchange between the US and other countries around the world. In Spain, Fulbright offers grants to study, teach English, and conduct research to “exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns” (taken from the Fulbright website). Grants are competitive and require participants to apply a year before the expected date of beginning their work, but the Fulbright community is an extensive international network of scholars that is wonderful to be a part of both while in Spain and in the years after. Please see these websites for further information.

Auxiliar de Conversación, Ministerio de Educación, Gobierno de España

The Ministerio de Educación hires more than 1,200 North Americans to teach English throughout the country every year. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Auxiliares may list three regions of placement preference throughout the country, and they are assigned to a region and school based on the school’s necessity. The position lasts for the entire Spanish academic year (September through June), with the possibility to be extended for a second year.

For more information, see the Ministerio de Educación website.

Volunteer Opportunities

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) – España is a not-for-profit organization which facilitates connections between volunteers and hosts.  Volunteering responsibilities include labor as is normal in a countryside house, and work alongside nature while focusing on the use of sustainable and organic methods in an ecological and alternative lifestyle.  The WWOOF organization helps volunteers find hosts to provide room and board in exchange for the volunteer’s labor.  Volunteers should be prepared to embrace living in a rural area such as a farm.  For more information, click on the link above, or apply to be a WWOOFer.

Pueblo Inglés is a 7-day program in various locations around the Spanish countryside, where the goal is to have native English speakers volunteer to provide Spanish business people with intensive exposure to the English language.  Activities to improve proficiency in English include class time, relaxed conversations, board games, etc.  To improve fluency, the program emphasizes impulsive conversation without time to mentally translate each phrase.  High standard accommodations and all meals are provided for volunteers. For more information about Pueblo Inglés programs, click on the like above, or apply to volunteer.
