Sheraton Society Hill Hotel, Philadelphia, PA, October 24-26, 2008

2008 Conference Notes

Registration Fee Schedule: Non-Members: $140; Standard Members: $115; Student Members: $40. Registration fees are separate from membership dues.

N.B.: In order to accommodate those who cannot be present on Saturday evening and to bring the registration fee closer to the real cost, admission to the banquet and keynote address is available on an optional basis.

Banquet Fee Schedule: Non-Members: $50; Standard Members: $40; Student Members: $25.

Dinner Guests: Members are encouraged to bring guests to the banquet on Saturday evening to hear the featured speaker. Please indicate on your registration form the number of guests you would like to include. If anyone in your party has special dietary needs, please indicate them on your registration form.

Hotel Rooms: Rooms at the Sheraton Society Hill are available at the conference rate of $179 per night for single or double occupancy, and can be reserved by calling 1-800-325-3535 before September 28, 2008. You must request the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics’ Annual Meeting in order to receive the special rate. Reservations must be guaranteed by one night’s deposit or a major credit card. This rate is not guaranteed after September 28, nor is room availability generally guaranteed after that date. Don’t miss out. Reserve your room today!

Taxes and Porterage: All room rates are subject to state, local and any occupancy taxes in effect at the time of the meeting. Presently such taxes total 14% per room, per night. For group arrivals the current round-trip-porterage charge is $6.00 per bag.

Air Travel: We encourage our members to shop around for low fares with online travel vendors such as Orbitz.com, Travelocity.com, Priceline.com, Hotwire.com, and Expedia.com.

The Sheraton Society Hill is located at One Dock Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106. You can reach the Sheraton by telephone at 215-238-6000.

Parking: Valet parking is currently $28.00 for 24 hours with in-and-out privileges. Rates are subject to change.

Travel Directions: See the Map page of the Sheraton Society Hill Website for detailed driving and public transportation directions: www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/area/map.html?propertyID=166

Airport Transportation: Cab fare from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to the hotel averages $28. The hotel does not have a complimentary airport shuttle. However, the airport’s Website features a list of door-to-door ground transport providers at: www.phl.org/ground_transportation.html#ground

Book Display: The Scholar’s Choice will operate our book display. If you are interested in having books displayed at the ALSC Conference, in order to avoid confusion, delay, and possible disappointment, please note the following:

  • The Scholar’s Choice displays on behalf of publishers only. All requests must be made by the publisher, not the author. Therefore, we you to contact your publisher as soon as possible to determine whether or not they will reserve the titles you wish to display. You must contact your publisher directly—please do not call The Scholar’s Choice.

  • Publishers must pay a fee to display titles with The Scholar’s Choice. Not all
publishers will have the marketing budget necessary to honor all requests,
particularly for older titles. Therefore, all titles should be appropriate to the meeting and must have been published since 2005.

  • Reservations from publishers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The Scholar’s Choice is already accepting books for the exhibit & would suggest contacting your publisher no later than September 1st. It is possible that their table space may fill before this date, however, so please contact your publisher ASAP.

The reservations coordinator at The Scholar’s Choice is Debby Pitts (e-mail: djpitts@scholarschoice.com; phone: 585-262-2048 x108). Please ask your publisher to contact her as soon as possible.
