How Spanish Linguistics courses count toward CAS Degree Requirements

There has been some confusion about how the recently introduced courses in Spanish linguistics count toward various degree programs; and "degree advice" reports on the Link may not yet be showing this accurately. See below for clarification :-)

For the major in Hispanic Language & Literatures

Required Courses

One course in linguistics (CAS LX 250) or comparative literature.

Important note: CAS LX 250 is a prerequisite for higher-level courses in Spanish linguistics. So students who plan to take CAS LS/LX 420, CAS LS 505, CAS LS/LX 507, and/or CAS LS/LX 508 are urged to take CAS LX 250 early — to avoid disappointment later.

Two language courses at the 300 level (Native speakers of Spanish take one course, CAS LS  309, and one additional Hispanic literature course at the 500 level.)
bullet Six literature courses: CAS LS 350, LS 456; two from the following survey courses: CAS LS  454, 455, 457; two courses from the CAS LS 500-level literature courses (one in Spanish Peninsular literature and one in Spanish-American literature).

CAS LS/LX 508 The Structure of Spanish

* Crosslisted as both CAS LS and CAS LX. Course taken under either number will count.

One additional course in Spanish literature or Spanish linguistics from the LS 500-level offerings.

LS 504 [prereq: CAS LS 350 and two LS 400-level lit courses]; and LS 505, LS/LX 507, LS/LX 508 [all with prereq: CAS LS 303 and CAS LX 250] can count toward this requirement (regardless of whether crosslisted courses are taken with the LS or LX number).
