Parking


From the West
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) to Exit 18 (Cambridge/Brighton). Pay toll, then follow the signs for Cambridge through the first light. Turn right at the next light, keeping the Doubletree Guest Suite Hotel on the right. Take Soldiers Field Road/Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Square exit.

Local Directions from the Kenmore Square/Commonwealth Avenue exit of Storrow Drive: At the first set of traffic lights, turn right onto Beacon Street. At this point, the road forks; the right fork is Bay State Road. The left fork will take you into Kenmore Square. Take that to Kenmore Square. At the square, bear right onto Commonwealth Avenue (you will be headed west). Continue on Commonwealth Avenue for several blocks. 718 Commonwealth Avenue will be on the left-hand side of the street, between the intersections of Cummington St. and St. Mary's St. (on your left).

From the North
Travel South on Route 95 to Route 93. Take Exit 26 (Storrow Drive/North Station) moving quickly to the left on the exit ramp, and into the tunnel to Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Square Exit (left exit). Use the right-hand side of the exit ramp for Kenmore Square (
see directions above from Kenmore square exit).

From the South
Take Route 93/Route 3 North to Exit 26 (Storrow Drive/Back Bay). Go West on Storrow Drive;
follow directions above to the Kenmore Square exit and the University.

Parking
Metered parking is available on the street. (Most meters accept quarters only.) A campus parking lot, which offers parking for $10 per day, is located off Commonwealth Avenue just West of Kenmore Square. There is also a commercial parking lot on the left-hand side of Commonwealth Avenue just beyond St. Mary's Street.


By Public Transportation (the "T")

 

Boston University is easily accessible by public transportation. The "B" branch of the MBTA (a.k.a. the "T") Green Line passes through the campus along Commonwealth Avenue. The closest T stop to 718 Comm. Ave. is the "BU East" stop on the "B" branch of the Green Line. If you are coming from another line, you will need to travel to one of Government Center, Park Street, or Kenmore Square stations. From any of those stations, take a "B" train on the Green Line outbound. A Subway Map showing the main lines and stops is available here. Directions to the "B" line are as follows:

By Red Line:

Take the Red Line train to Park Street Station; transfer to the Green Line "B" Train ("outbound").

By Blue Line (including Logan Airport):

Take the Blue Line Train to Government Center; transfer to the Green Line "B" Train ("outbound").

By Orange Line:

Take the Orange Line Train to Downtown Crossing; follow the underground concourse to the Green Line Park Street Station, then board the "B" Train ("outbound").

By Green Line:

From Lechmere, Science Park, North Station, or Haymarket - Take any train to Government Center; transfer to the "B" Train. From the Suburban "C" (Cleveland Circle) or "D" (Riverside) Lines - Take any train Inbound to Kenmore Square; change to the Outbound platform and board the "B" Train. From the "E" (Heath Street) Line - Take any train Inbound to Arlington Station; change to the Outbound platform and board the "B" Train ("outbound").

From the Green Line stop:

Get off at the second official stop after the trolley comes above ground. This is called "Boston University East" and will be labeled.

Continue walking about half a block further, in the same direction that the trolley had been traveling, on the side of the street to your left (the side further from the Charles River). The Department of Modern Foreign Languages will be on your left, between Lollicup Tea and the Dugout. It is a brick building: 718 Commonwealth Ave..

By Air


Logan Airport is located about eight miles from Boston University. A taxi to the Admissions Reception Center costs about $18 and takes from a half-hour to an hour, depending on traffic. The subway from the airport takes about an hour.

Taking the MBTA (subway) from the airport
Take the Airport Shuttle Bus (which stops at all major terminals) to the "T" station. Then take an Inbound train to Government Center (fare: 1 dollar).

 

By Bus


Most major bus lines operate from South Station. A taxi from South Station will cost $9 to $12 and will take about 30 minutes.

Taking the MBTA (subway) from South Station
From the Trailways or Greyhound station, walk to South Station and take the Red Line Inbound (toward Harvard) to Park Street Station (fare 1 dollar). Transfer to the
Green Line Outbound.

 

By Train


Trains arrive in South Station and Back Bay. Follow South Station directions above (under "By Bus"). The Back Bay station is closer to campus, but involves a walk of several blocks to the Green "T" (MBTA subway) line or a taxi ride of $8 to $10.
